Combating FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)

I’ll admit that sometimes I struggle with FOMO or fear of missing out. I want to be in the know and I find myself wishing that I was at a certain event, or hanging with certain groups of people. I’m an introspective person so during my moments of solitude, I think about what is the root cause of me feeling this way. I think back to my childhood when I wanted to be a popular girl’s friend so bad, and when we became friends, her circle did not accept me. I believe from there I struggled with acceptance and it has spilled over to being fearful of missing out.

The good news is that the Bible has an answer for EVERYTHING, literally! I read a devotional earlier this week that tackled FOMO and the author referenced 1 Corinthians 7:17 (MSG). This passage was written by the Apostle Paul and it states, “And don’t be wishing you were someplace else or with someone else. Where you are right now is God’s place for you…” When I read this, I was blown away! If it’s God’s will for me to be at a certain place at a certain time, then I will be there. God has me where I need to be, and He has you where you need to be.

Do you struggle with FOMO? If not, maybe there is something else you’re struggling with right now. Just know that there is nothing you’re going through that God can’t help you overcome.
